When it was time for Jerry and Zan Bramley to start thinking about their future, they began the search for a Life Plan Community, also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (or CCRC). They were coming into a time in their lives where an independent living lifestyle would give them the freedom to spend more time doing the things they love, rather than doing the things they have to — like cooking, cleaning and yard work.  A Continuing Care Retirement Community would also give the Bramleys the assurance that if they ever need healthcare services in the future, they would have priority access to Trinity Grove.

Their search for independent living at a CCRC began in their own community here in Wilmington, where they had established roots and could continue to pursue their interests, many of which take place on the water and in the surrounding natural landscape.

“We love to go out on the water. I enjoy shellfishing, going out for clams and oysters,” says Jerry. “My wife and I are both avid walkers and we walk several miles a day.”

During their search for a CCRC, Jerry and Zan explored several communities in the area, with Trinity Landing high on the list. Because Jerry previously served on the board of Lutheran Services Carolinas — the organization that inspired and helped plan Trinity Landing — the soon-to-be community had a special connection to the couple. Jerry had played a part in the planning of Trinity Landing, and he knew and trusted the people who would one day manage the community once it is built.

“During our shopping experience, we found that we connected most with the team at Trinity Landing. They are all top notch,” said Jerry. “The community will also have a great location, right along the Intracoastal Waterway, which is perfect for what I see in my life and in my retirement years.”

Once the Bramleys made the decision to become depositors at Trinity Landing, they began looking at the options for their perfect residence and looking forward to the amenities, services and lifestyle of independent living.

“We’re hoping for a two-bedroom villa close to the water. We plan to use the second bedroom as an office or den space, and plan to use the living and dining area as mostly living space, as we will be taking advantage of the dining venues on campus,” says Jerry. “We’ve already started to downsize, have gone through our attic, and are planning on what furniture will work best in the new space.”

An active, maintenance-free lifestyle

The Bramleys look forward to continuing their active lifestyle at Trinity Landing, and eliminating burdensome house maintenance and yard work.

“We currently live on three acres of property in a semi-tropical climate, and the vegetation runs wild. It takes a lot of time and resources to keep up with it,” says Jerry. “I currently hire someone to manage it, but once we are residents at Trinity Landing, it will be taken care of for no additional cost, since it’s included in our monthly fee.”

The couple also looks forward to having several dining venues to choose from, including the casually elegant restaurant and pub, and the beautiful outdoor walking paths that will wind through the community. Other amenities the Bramleys will take advantage of are the arts studio, wellness center, salon and spa, and much more.

“My advice to people who are shopping for a retirement community is to look at the quality of living in the surroundings – both in the buildings and amenities, and in the natural surroundings,” adds Jerry. “Trinity Landing will be more park-like than a residential community, with its scenic trails that go down to the water. The amenities and location just can’t compare.”
