“It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt
No one knows for certain what the future may hold, but many of us have hopes of what we want to happen. Perhaps you wish to pursue a passion, travel to a new destination or spend more time with family and friends. No matter your wish for the future, the best thing you can do is to start planning it now!
This is the approach that Luana and Clyde Queen have taken when it comes to their retirement. They hope for a retirement that allows them the freedom to continue to volunteer and stay active and have security for the future. The retirement lifestyle they envisioned was the driving factor behind their search for a Life Plan Community, also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC. They wanted to move to a place that would support their active lifestyle, with the assurance that if they ever need healthcare services, they will have priority access at a place like Trinity Grove.
“Don’t wait until the need is there,” says Luana. “Do your research, evaluate and make decisions early on. We have friends who think we’re nuts to plan for it now, but our primary goal is to eliminate any angst for our family.”
A clear choice
The Queens explored several communities in the area, but after gathering information and attending an information session, they quickly concluded that Trinity Landing will be their best option. They were attracted to the organization based on the beautiful location on the Intracoastal Waterway and the planned campus amenities, including several dining venues, a state-of-the-art wellness center, a library and much more.
“We liked that it’s a not-for-profit organization, and what that implies,” adds Luana. “There’s also a warmness and sincerity about the people involved. Everyone on the team has been so helpful in answering all of our questions.”
The couple has even identified a two-bedroom apartment home floor plan for when they become residents. The additional bedroom will allow space for overnight visitors. Clyde and Luana currently live in a townhouse, and so they look forward to the maintenance-free lifestyle that an apartment home at Trinity Landing will bring.
“I look forward to not having to figure out what to cook every night, and to the housekeeping services that are included in the monthly fee,” says Luana.
An active future
Although the soon-to-be community will not open for two more years, they feel secure in their plan. They look forward most to the additional time they will have to do the things they enjoy most, like volunteering and exercising.
“We love to volunteer with outside organizations, at our church and at the hospital. That’s something we want to continue doing. Exercising is also key for us. We have done it for years, and the idea that they will have such a nice wellness facility is exciting,” says Luana. “I also used to play bridge, and so I hope to do that again. We enjoy going out to see plays and musical performances, too. There will be lots of opportunities for us to do that. The main thing for us is to stay active and engaged.”
