There are countless reasons that seniors move to Life Plan Communities (also known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities or CCRCs), like the soon-to-be-built CCRC in Wilmington, Trinity Landing. Maybe it’s for the exceptional amenities, financial predictability, time-freeing services and conveniences, luxurious residences or the assurance of a secure future.
For future residents Linda and George Johnson, they chose Trinity Landing because they want to enjoy an exciting waterside lifestyle, the peace of mind of a secure future and plenty of good times with their good friends.
Family and friends first
George and Linda decided to move to a senior living community nearly 20 years ago, while they lived in Boston. At the time, they had helped Linda’s parents move from Fayetteville, N.C. to a senior living community in Raleigh, N.C. (Springmoor), and experienced firsthand the peace of mind that a community for active seniors could provide for her parents. Feeling that relief, Linda and George decided right then that they also would move to a similar community one day, and would provide their children that same secure feeling.
George recalled, “We saw the benefits they got from moving there, and a weight was lifted off our shoulders. We knew back then that’s what we wanted to do. We’d find a place where we would be free from a lot of burdens.”
When deciding to move to an active senior living community, the Johnsons also considered their busy social life. Although they plan to make many new friends, they didn’t want to move far away from their current home and leave behind their beloved friends.
“A large part of our life is fellowship,” George shared. “We spend a lot of time with friends. Friendship is one of the most important things in our lives. Of course, we have our family and that is important, but friendship means a lot to us too.”
Discovering Trinity Landing
George and Linda learned about Trinity Landing through a friend who had mentioned the project to them, and because they currently live just a few miles from the future site, they were intrigued. They quickly scheduled a visit to the Trinity Landing Welcome Center to speak with the team and learn more about the project. During their visit, the Johnsons were happy to learn that the community will offer a maintenance-free lifestyle located on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Before deciding, they toured an existing community, Trinity Oaks, which is owned and operated by Trinity Landing’s parent organization, Lutheran Services Carolinas. George and Linda were impressed with the caring staff and welcoming atmosphere at Trinity Oaks, and they knew Trinity Landing would offer a similar kind of community lifestyle.
“It felt like one big happy family!” George exclaimed. “That was the level of quality that we were looking for.”
“We’re excited about being part of the community,” Linda shared.
An active lifestyle (and time to enjoy it)
Beyond the coastal beauty and resort-like amenities, George and Linda are most excited to live a maintenance-free lifestyle once Trinity Landing opens in 2022. Their current house requires a great deal of cleaning, landscaping and upkeep, but as residents of Trinity Landing, an experienced team of professionals will take care of these time-consuming, costly tasks as part of the monthly service package.
“A week doesn’t go by without something going wrong in the house. I don’t personally want to be bothered with that. I’d rather be enjoying my life,” George explained.
George and Linda are both very active, and with the maintenance-free lifestyle they’ll have, they look forward to spending more time doing the things they love.
“We play golf, walk and read. I enjoy going to the beach, and spending time on volunteer work. I’m very involved in my church,” Linda shared. George added that he also enjoys golf and takes a special interest in traveling and taking online courses.
George and Linda have now made their deposit and secured their place at the future community, and they’re excited that they’ll be some of the first residents to move in when Trinity Landing opens in 2022. And because they’ve made their deposit already, the Johnsons will have a priority spot in line to reserve their dream residence. In the meantime, as the community comes together, they will get the first look at new site maps and renderings, and will receive invitations to exclusive events for fellow depositors that will help shape the future of Trinity Landing.
